"One person can make a difference. That one person can be you."

FOUNDER

Demisew Getaneh, the founder of Take Care of Home, embarked on a journey that began as a personal mission and evolved into a global movement. His story is not unlike many immigrants. But it was a visit to his old elementary school in Ethiopia in 2014 that ignited a spark of change.

Returning to his childhood school after 24 years, Demisew was shocked to find that nothing had changed. The same worn-down walls from his youth remained untouched since 1991. Instead of progress, he witnessed decay. A casual conversation with the principal and a small donation of $100 set the stage for a transformative experience.

The principal's overwhelming gratitude for the donation, the largest he had ever received, inspired Demisew. He realized the profound impact that even modest contributions could have. This experience led to the creation of Take Care of Home, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting schools in Ethiopia, particularly those serving the most disadvantaged communities.

What began as a personal act of giving has grown into a movement that challenges others to take action and create meaningful change. Take Care of Home continues to expand its reach and find innovative ways to make a difference while staying true to its core mission: identifying underfunded public schools in rural Ethiopia and building classrooms with the active participation of the local community.

Today, Take Care of Home has garnered the support of over 800 donors and supporters. The organization has achieved significant milestones, including building 48 classrooms at nine different schools, impacting over 4,800 students. Additionally, Take Care of Home has constructed 28 homes for underserved families, provided school lunches and tuition for low-income students, supported over 20 single-parent households, and distributed 22,000 notebooks and additional school supplies. These are just a few examples of the organization's many impactful projects.

At Take Care of Home, we believe that everyone, regardless of their background, has the power to positively impact the lives of others. This is just the beginning of our journey, and we are committed to continuing our efforts to make a lasting difference.
