Background
Kebele 03 Elementary School, founded in 1989, had fallen into disrepair due to neglect and lack of resources. Like many schools in Ethiopia, the responsibility for maintaining and rebuilding the school rested with the parents and the local community.
This school was identified by our Axumite Abreha. Axumite a dedicated advocate for education and a collaborator on a previous project, has a history of successfully raising funds locally to support school construction and restoration initiatives. However, the ongoing conflict in the region has presented significant challenges for her fundraising efforts. That’s when she reached out to TCOH to share 50% of the cost of an eight classroom project.
Our Method
We prioritize community engagement in our school-building projects, visiting a minimum of three to four towns and schools annually. Through meetings with school administrators and community members, we carefully select project sites based on need, accessibility, and the community's willingness to participate. By fostering local involvement, we aim to empower communities and ensure the sustainability of our projects
Outcome
The newly constructed building at Kebele 03 Primary School features 8 classrooms, of which 4 were built with TCOH funds. This project was a collaborative effort with in Axumite Abraha, with our organization contributing 50% of the construction costs. This particular project allowed us to take the first step in expanding our mission by building classrooms at multiple schools in the same year.
