Background
Mosebo, a small village located in Adet Wereda within the Gojam region, is home to Mosebo Elementary School. Established in 1995, the school serves approximately 800 students and 22 teachers. The land on which the school stands was generously donated by local farmers to the government in recognition of the pressing need for a nearby educational institution.
Despite the community's efforts to construct decent classrooms over the years, the lack of funding and expertise resulted in subpar conditions that were unsuitable for students. Unfortunately, this is a common issue in many rural schools throughout Ethiopia.
Our Method
We prioritize community engagement in our school-building projects, visiting a minimum of three to four towns and schools annually. Through meetings with school administrators and community members, we carefully select project sites based on need, accessibility, and the community's willingness to participate. By fostering local involvement, we aim to empower communities and ensure the sustainability of our projects
Outcome
The local community leaders warmly welcomed our initiative and pledged their support and assistance to the project, contributing resources and labor whenever possible. In fact the community played a critical role in providing water for the project.
The newly constructed building at Mosebo Primary School features eight classrooms, providing a much-needed upgrade for both educators and students.
Mosebo marked our first project outside of Gonder, marking a significant expansion of our reach into the Gojam region. We are immensely proud of this project, which we consider our most successful endeavor to date. Our ongoing commitment is to continually improve our efficiency and the quality of our work.
